About Mary

A nurse, a leader, and an advocate

My mission

My name is Mary Vitullo and I am on a mission to improve the lives of all nurses in the state of Texas. From the bedside to the board room and spanning all generations, I believe that nurses deserve a seat at the table where change occurs.

About Me

I am from Frisco, Texas and I have worked as a bedside nurse for the last 6.5 years. I worked on the front-lines of the COVID-19 pandemic on a COVID cohort unit and also took care of cardiac patients. I recently was promoted this December to be the Nurse Manager of the Medical Telemetry Unit. I have a Bachelors of Science in Nursing degree and hold Masters’ degrees in Nursing Administration and Business Administration from the University of Texas at Tyler. I am currently enrolled in the Doctor of Nursing Practice in Healthcare Leadership, Systems and Policy at Yale University. I hold certifications in Cardiac-Vascular Nursing and Nurse Executive Board Certified from the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), Progressive Care Registered Nurse from the American Association of Critical Care Nurses, and a Lean Six Sigma Black Belt from the Association of Technology, Management, and Applied Engineering. Ever since the moment I knew I wanted to a nurse I have felt called to serve the profession. As a nursing student I was actively involved in the National Student Nurses Association (NSNA) where I served in several board positions and leadership roles. Upon graduating from nursing school, I immediately joined the American Nurses Association (ANA) and became actively involved. Currently I serve as Chair of the Professional Policy Committee for the ANA where I help support policies to guide the organization’s strategic plan. Additionally, I currently serve as Director at Large on the Texas Nurses Association Board of Directors where I promote the advocacy of nurses across the state of Texas. I previously have served on the Government Affairs Committee (GAC) for the Texas Nurses Association and I served as a Membership Assembly Representative in Summer 2020. Previously, I served on the board of directors for the Texas Nurses Association District 4 as a Director and as Treasurer. I also serve on process improvement, staffing effectiveness, chest pain, and code blue committees at my hospital where I advocate for healthy working environments for nurses and safe patient care. I am dedicated to serving the profession now and forever.
